StopNCII: help stop your intimate images being shared
StopNCII.org is a free tool that creates a “digital fingerprint” of your intimate images on your phone or computer (a code calculated from the image that lets it be recognised without being seen), without uploading them. Partner platforms use this fingerprint to detect and remove those images.
Who it is for
You can use it if you are the person in the image, were at least 18 when it was taken and are 18 or older now, still have the file, and the image shows you nude, semi-nude or in a sexual act. Deepfakes of you are accepted. For an image taken before you turned 18, see the Take It Down guide.
Time frame
The fingerprint is created immediately; matching then continues on partner platforms. Updates to your case can take 3 to 5 days.
Cost
Free.
Legal basis
This is not a legal remedy but a free technical tool run by the Revenge Porn Helpline, part of the UK charity SWGfL. It complements legal routes (DSA, police complaint, TAKE IT DOWN Act…) without replacing them.
The steps
- Go to stopncii.org (also available in French and Spanish) and start creating a case.
- Select the photos or videos on your device: the fingerprint is calculated there; the image itself never leaves your device.
- Write down your case number and PIN straight away somewhere safe: if you lose them, they cannot be recovered.
- Partner platforms compare content uploaded to them against your fingerprint and remove matching images if they break their rules.
- Follow your case with your number (allow 3 to 5 days to see updates). You can also withdraw it at any time.
- If the images are already online, also report them directly to the platforms and use legal routes: StopNCII is an addition, not a replacement.
What to prepare
- The photos or videos concerned, on your own device
- For a video: a few screenshots from it to add as well (StopNCII recommends this, as a video and its thumbnail do not have the same fingerprint)
- A safe place to write down your case number and PIN

The limits you should know
- It only works on partner platforms: check the current list on the website (it includes, among others, Microsoft services such as Bing and several adult sites).
- It does not remove anything already posted elsewhere: it is a prevention tool, to be combined with reports and legal routes.
- You need the file. In blackmail cases, cropped screenshots can be used, but they may not protect against a video being shared.
- Only for adults, for images taken at age 18 or over.
- StopNCII does not send any report to the police.
- Even if you withdraw your case, platforms may keep applying their rules to images they have already detected.
If it doesn’t work
An official form can go unanswered or be wrongly refused. That’s not the end: there are other doors, heavier but effective — the company hosting the site, the company managing its domain name, the laws of your country, the data protection authority. That’s exactly what we do for you, with your agreement.
- Reporting to the platform
- A written request to the site owner
- The domain name registrar
- The hosting company
- Search engines
- The authority or the courts
