Someone is posting lies about you on Facebook

Here is the official process on Facebook, checked on 15 October 2026. Follow the steps in order.

Before you start

  • Note the date of the first publication: that is what counts for time limits, not the day you found it.
  • Take complete screenshots: page address, date, account name, full text.
  • Report the posts to the platform (harassment, hate speech, false information about a person).
  • If it continues or is serious, report it to the police. Helplines for your country are on our Urgent help page.

The steps

Report bullying, harassment or personal attacks

  1. First, take screenshots of the posts.
  2. Report the post or profile with "…" then "Report".
  3. Block or unfriend the person.
  4. Don’t respond to provocation, and talk to someone you trust.
  5. If you’re in immediate danger, contact the police.

You may need to log in to your account. Checked on 15 October 2026.

Defamation reporting form

  1. Open the form and pick the country where you claim your rights.
  2. Say you are reporting for yourself (or as a representative).
  3. Enter your name, mailing address and email.
  4. Paste the link to each post and explain why it is defamatory.
  5. Submit; attach a court order if you have one.

You don’t need an account. Checked on 15 October 2026.

If it doesn’t work

An official form can go unanswered or be wrongly refused. That’s not the end: there are other doors, heavier but effective — the company hosting the site, the company managing its domain name, the laws of your country, the data protection authority. That’s exactly what we do for you, with your agreement.

  1. Reporting to the platform
  2. A written request to the site owner
  3. The domain name registrar
  4. The hosting company
  5. Search engines
  6. The authority or the courts
